Albury's Newmarket Hotel offers $1000 free roll tournament!

The Newmarket Hotel hosts a $1000 free roll tournament on the last Wednesday of every month. In conjunction with a region wide player of the season leader board worth an additional $3000, the Albury Wodonga area is offering a very rewarding experience to its poker players.
Last month's free roll attracted a massive turnout, with 130 players making it out from as far as Melbourne for a chance to take home some of the $1000 prize money. The upcoming $1000 event will be held on the 26th of November.
"The $1000 free roll tournament has been one of our most successful events. With the massive amount of players at the last tournament, we held al-fresco poker to accommodate the large numbers" said Chris Glen, APL's Albury Wodonga regional manager. "A mix of the perfect Australian weather and such a great venue made it a fantastic event for all involved".
Lauren Angus, who journeyed up to Albury from Melbourne, performed exceptionally well, playing an aggressive form of poker and rising to the top of the chips early on in the tournament. She eventually placed second after a thrilling back-and-forth contest with Leigh Mizzi, who won five hands in a row to secure the win.
The region also hosts a player of the season leader board that operates at all venues throughout Albury Wondonga and Alpine regions, culminating in a player of the season grand final where $3000 will be up for grabs.
"December offers double the points to our players on our player of the season leader board, so the competition is really starting to heat up", said Chris Glen. "The top standings will definitely see a bit of a shake up, with two months left players further down the board will be really trying to take advantage of the point bonus this month".
In addition, there will be a Wild Turkey Poker Classic satellite event on December 18th, with first place being awarded a seat in APL's prestigious $500,000 tournament. Second place will win a spot in the Victoria Pro Open. Tickets for the satellite event can be pre-ordered by emailing amanda@playapl.com .
