Test
After
10 hours of intense card playing action, Rodney Davidson, 31, from Bega, NSW,
has walked away with the inaugural Wild Turkey APL Tournament of Champions first
prize, a massive $300,000. Over the past few months Rodney has played his
way through numerous ‘free poker’ APL games
to earn a place at the tournament and then outwitted and out played more than
200 other state winners from across Australia, for the tournament’s first
prize.
Having
won the final game with three 4s King high, Rodney was clearly overjoyed with
his prestigious win and commented, ‘I am so excited to have won the tournament.
I am still finding it hard to believe that I have a cheque in my hand for
$300,000 having not paid a cent of my own money to win it,’
‘I
left the house yesterday with nothing in my bank account, a car that’s about to
be repossessed and only $250 in my pocket. Having won this tournament I
can now pay all the bills and put some money aside for my daughter’s
future. I’d never imagined that this could happen to me. It’s been a
fantastic day and I’m already looking forward to next year’s tournament.
I’d recommend to anyone to get down to an APL night at their local hotel and
give it a try. It’s great fun and just look what can happen.’ he
continued.
The
Wild Turkey APL Tournament of Champions was a day packed with intense
competition. There was a celebrity game for charity, a $1million prize
pool up for grabs and a live performance by none other than Shannon Noll, the
new face of APL.
Co-founder of the Australian Poker League, Martin Martinez, said, ‘Being
able to reward our members with a prize pool of $1million makes it all the more
satisfying. No other FREE to Play organisation in the world has ever
offered a prize of this magnitude to their players making the day unique,’ he
said
The
Wild Turkey Celebrity Challenge was commentated by the new Wild Turkey
ambassador Joe Hachem and won by Canterbury Bulldogs player, Willie Mason.
Wild Turkey donated $10,000 to The Cancer Council, Willie's chosen
charity. Willie defeated runner up Glenn Stewart, from the Manly Sea
Eagles, Pat Davern from the band Grinspoon and Iron woman, Candice Falzon
amongst others.
Willie
Mason said, ‘It was a really fun tournament to be a part of. I am a big fan of
The Cancer Council and all the work that they do and am happy to be able to
present them with a cheque for $10,000 thanks to Wild Turkey,’
Each
of the players won their place in the tournament by playing APL poker at their
local clubs, pub or hotel. These qualifying tournaments were held at over 700
venues across Australia in the last year with over 4000 free games played each
and every month. For further information about where APL games are played please
