WIN Corporation Managing Director, David Butorac, today announced WIN has acquired a 50 percent stake in the entertainment brand, Australian Poker League (APL).
Mr Butorac commented on the partnership saying, "APL has achieved significant success during a relatively short period of operation and we are very excited about the opportunities this partnership delivers," he said.
"To take such a large participation social activity and leverage it with our media assets across Australia provides a great environment for growth for both businesses."
The now world-wide poker phenomenon, that has been a favourite North American pastime in recent decades, has exploded in popularity largely due to the free poker model, which APL founded three years ago. There are now an estimated two-million poker enthusiasts in Australia who encompass a broad spectrum of society.
APL's primary event property offers free, fun and friendly entertainment catering to a passionate and loyal base of up to 250,000 players every month, where participants play for points and glory.
This no risk free poker model also provides the opportunity for social connection among its players which promotes a sense of camaraderie and sportsmanship.
Mr Butorac continued, "APL is another Australian founded and owned entertainment business that WIN Corporation sees as a natural complement to our expanding business portfolio."
CEO and Director of APL, Martin Martinez, said APL is extremely excited to partner with a company like WIN Corporation, which already has a diverse portfolio of entertainment brands. "In 2005, APL pioneered a completely new form of entertainment, transforming poker into a free, fun and exciting sport enjoyed by a young demographic in the best venues around Australia," Mr
Martinez said.
"Free poker represents a growth category in the entertainment sector and after a successful threeyears in the marketplace, joining forces with WIN will help the business take the next step forward."
